Teacher Resources: Study Guides and Lesson Plans for
Charlotte's Web

Charlotte's Web Study Guide and Lesson PlanBelow are suggested classroom aids for teaching the children's classic Charlotte's Web.

Originally published in 1952, with illustrations by Garth Williams, E.B. White's Charlotte's Web is one of the classics of children's literature. Set on a farm in Maine, the story concerns a pig named Wilbur and his devoted friend Charlotte, a spider who save his life by writing words in her web.

Charlotte's Web was awarded a Newbery Medal Honor for Children's Literature in 1953, and the 1970 Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for his children’s books for both Stuart Little and Charlotte’s Web.

Reading level: Ages 9-12.

Video Version of Charlotte's Web.
Animated version of the classic, made in 1973, features voices of Debbie Reynolds and Henry Gibson, plus original songs. 94 minutes. DVD versions include a "guess-the-animals" game, fun for kids! Purists might not like the addition of music to the classic story, but I think this is a fun film for the whole family. Entertaining for a classroom of kids.

Also available in VHS and full-screen DVD.
